The Center for Rural Development is accepting grant applications from local government units in cities and counties across southern and eastern Kentucky — including Letcher County — for funding from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) for community strategic planning.
Through its Developing and Implementing Community Strategies Program, The Center will award $145,000 in ARC mini-grant funding to communities. Two cycles of mini-grants will be given in 2010 for the creation of a strategic plan or the implementation of priority community development projects identified in existing strategic plans. The Center also is encouraging the use of technology solutions in the implementation and execution of these plans and projects.
The application period for the first cycle of funding will be open through Jan. 4, and grants are expected to be given in February. Individual project awards will range from $5,000 up to a maximum of $10,000. All projects must be completed within a six-month period.
The application period for the second cycle of funding will be announced at a later date. For more information about the program or for grant applications, contact Patti Simpson at (606) 677-6000 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
