Graveside services for Waylon Whitaker, 72, of Hallie, were held Saturday, January 9, at the Jont Cornett Cemetery at Hallie.
A son of the late George and Devenee Whitaker, he died January 7.
Mr. Whitaker had served in the Vietnam War, and was a member of the Southeast Blacksmiths Association, Southeastern Kentucky Shawnee Eagle Tribe, Disabled American Veterans Post 64, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Hazard Post 7387.
He was known for his love of animals, nature, and flashy red cars.
Surviving are two brothers, Wayne Whitaker and Ina Sue Caudill of Hallie, and Willie Lee Whitaker of Sassafras; a nephew, Dewayne Whitaker; two nieces, Shonna Lavonne Gullett and Madonna Sue Eades; a cousin, Dorothy Grace Ison; and a close friend, Joe Turner.
He was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Lisa C. Tackett.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hurricane Valley Primitive Baptist Church.
Letcher Funeral Home of Whitesburg had charge of arrangements.
