— Jim McDannel (right) and Larry Martin (left), guests of Rotarian Jack Burkich, presented a program on NET Recovery, a abstinence-based drug addiction treatment program, to members of the Rotary Club of Whitesburg. The NET Recovery program uses NeuroElectric Therapy to deliver low levels of electrical stimulation to detoxify patients and remove drug cravings and restore mental acuity in as little as even to 10 days. The NET program is currently operating in Perry County. Commonwealth Compassion Bridge, a Kentucky-based non-profit organization, is supporting a trial of this program in Kentucky by sponsoring the study of 240 subjects to assess the impact of using this program on detoxification and on 3- and 6-month post-treatment abstinence rates for recovering addicts validated by drug testing. A review of a 2007 open pilot of this program in eastern Kentucky suggests that 70 percent of recovering addicts were drug-free two years after treatment.
