Hagel Campbell succumbs at 91




Hagel Campbell, 91, of Letcher, died January 1 at the East Kentucky Veterans Center in Hazard.

A son of the late Mannon and Meldie Whitaker Campbell, he was a brother of the late Zola Watts.

He was a member of the Cedar Grove Old Regular Baptist Church, and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Ina Cornett Campbell; four sons, Danny “Hoot” Campbell, Springbranch; Don Reed Campbell, Lexington; Harvey “B” Campbell, Blackey; and Hagel Campbell Jr., Jeremiah; three daughters, Dalna Whitaker, Somerset, and Delana Lark and Virginia Day, both of Cowan; two brothers, Benton Campbell and Coleman “Dabber” Campbell, both of Linefork; five sisters, Liz Dixon and Grady Bradley, both of Linefork; Irene Thomas, Blackey; Thelma Watts, Kingsport, Tenn.; and Arbadella Deaton, Jackson; 12 grandchildren, and 10 greatgrandchildren.

Funeral services were held January 3 at Letcher Funeral Home. Burial was in Green Acres Cemetery at Ermine.
