Funeral services were held February 9 at Letcher Funeral Home for longtime storekeeper and postmaster Hager Trent Sr. of Cowan.
Trent, 75, died February 5 at Hazard Appalachian Regional Healthcare Center.
He ran Trent’s Grocery at the entrance to Scuttle Hole Gap on Big Cowan for many years, and was the postmaster for Day Rural Station until the office closed and was absorbed into the Whitesburg rural route.
A son of the late Bob and Virgie Tyra Trent, he was preceded also in death by a grandchild, Amber Jackson, and siblings, Maxine Adams, Pauline Webb, Lorene Lee, Fairy Duncan, and Charles Trent.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Day Trent ; two children, Tammy Trent and Hager Trent, Jr., and wife Charlotte, all of Cowan; grandchildren, Christopher Trent of Cynthiana, Nicholas Trent of McCalla, Ala., and William Hampton of Mooresburg, Tenn.; a greatgrandson, Colton Jackson of Whitesburg; a grandsonin law, Brad Jackson; and siblings, Faye Garcia of Deer Park, Tex., Barbara Brown and husband Ralph of Columbus, Ind., Bob Trent Jr. of Water Valley, Patricia Posen of Lombard, Illinois, Bennett Trent and wife Sherry of Water Valley, and Ken Trent and Linda Brown and husband Steve, all of Whitesburg.
Burial was in the Trent Cemetery at Cowan.
