‘Halo 3’ previewed

If you’ve never played the video game Halo or Halo 2, you’ve probably at least heard of it. This is one of the most popular on-line games out there and a lot of fans are excited about the next project by Bungie – Halo 3 (for the X-Box 360).

This game is like the other Halo games (a first-person shooter game) but there are some surprising changes. One set of changes to the game is the vehicles. Two new vehicles have been added to the game – the Mongoose (which resembles the old Warthog but like an ATV only two players fit in) and the Brute Chopper (which is a flying vehicle with one seat and twin cannons that can wipe out any weak vehicle).

The only other big difference in vehicles is the Wraith has a new player-operated secondary turret. But don’t worry, you still have the old vehicles. New weapons include the Assault Rifle from Halo 1, the Missile Pod (a turret with heat seeking missiles), the Spike Grenade (much like the Plasma Grenade but it can stick to walls and has shrapnel), the Spartan Laser (like a rocket launcher), and the Spike Rifle (which is like the Brute Plasma rifle).

Some changes to weapons are the Energy Sword now has an ammo meter so the weapon can run out of ammunition, and the Plasma Pistol (when charged up) can disable vehicles. Also, all weapons are back except the Brute Plasma Rifle.

One major addition to Halo 3 is “items,” which is another set of inventory you can use for many different situations. The items include the Radar Jammer (which jams radar), the Trip Mine (a normal land mine), the Bubble Shield (which creates a shield around you that is impenetrable to gunfire and grenades), the Power Drainer (which drains shields and disables vehicles), and the Grav-Lift (which can jump anything up into the air when passed over).

There are also new maps on Halo 3 including Shrine, Epitaph, Last Resort, Snowbound, Valhalla, and High Ground. Another update is in the Create-a- Spartan. You can change your Spartan’s appearance from head to toe. One noticeable change you can make in armor is a new mask. This is the end of the preview of Halo 3, be sure to buy the game when it comes out sometime in the fall of 2007.
