Hampton, 80, dies in Ohio on Feb. 26; was Letcher native





Donald Hampton, 80, of Hillsboro, Ohio, died Feb. 26.

Born in Jeremiah, he was a son of the late Jasper and Georgie Mae Back Hampton. He was a stepson of the late Lloyd Day, and a brother of the late Vaultie Hampton and Glendon Hampton He was a stepbrother of the late Amis Day, Wilson Day, and J. D. Edward Day.

Hampton was retired from Fisher Body in Cincinnati, Ohio He was a U SArmy veteran of World War II, and was a member of the Old Regular Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Virginia “Gin” Ruckel Hampton, a son, Dale Hampton, Hillsboro; a daughter, Tina Hampton Widmeyer, Buford, Ohio; grandchildren, Cole, Brian and Tori, and Jonathan, Christina and Ginny, and 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Gladys Thompson, New Castle, Ind.; a brother ,Gale Hampton, Waynesburg; a half-brother, Estill Day, Connersville, Ind.; half-sisters, Orene Correll and Mary Ann Yantz, Somerset; stepbrothers Burnett Day, Titusville, Fla., and Joe Day, Somerset; stepsisters, Rachel Wright and Magel Guinn, both of Lexington; Betty Wrenn, Bloomington, Ind.; Hettie Thompson, Eubank; Nancy Caudill and Margaret Eldridge, both of Somerset; and Minnie Caudill, Louisville.

Funeral services were conducted March 1 in Buford, Ohio. Burial was in Buford Cemetery.
