On Feb. 23, Jenkins Head Start/ Early Head Start teamed up with the Burdine Elementary School for their annual Reading is Fundamental (RIF) project. Each child between preschool and third grade received packets of hats, and each child was to read or be read to twice daily for two weeks.
The hats have a place for information about books that the children read, and then the hats were returned to the child’s school where they were displayed around the hallway.
The celebration was held on the Burdine Elementary Campus, where the children got to create hats of their very own, play beanbag hat toss, hat ring toss, face painting, make hats cupcake as well as pick out a free book to take home.
Principal Gracie Maggard of Burdine Elementary and Lead Teacher Sue Johnson from Jenkins Head Start/Early Head Start were on hand to plan and carry through the fun-filled evening.
