Have breakfast with Santa December 8

Christmas times a comin’, The geese are getting fat, Pleased to put a penny in the old man’s hat. If you haven’t got a penny, a ha’penny will do. If you haven’t got a ha’penny, then God bless you.

We are so thankful for our friends and family, and we are so looking forward to the weeks coming up and the flurry of activity this season brings at our Hemphill Community Center.

The breakfast with Santa will take place on December 8, beginning at 8 a.m., with food served through 10:30 a.m.

Hemphill

Way before the dawn, some of best cooks in the neighborhood will gather to cook a big old coal camp breakfast with all the old mouthwatering mountain favorites.

Usually, 30 or more pounds of flour will be made into melt-in-your-mouth cathead buttermilk biscuits. Other items include milk gravy made with drippings from the bacon, sausage, ham, and bologna we will fry up brown; fried Granny Smith apples; Mamaw Mable’s chocolate gravy; and scrambled eggs by the dozens of dozens with milk, orange juice, soda, and hot coffee to wash it all down.

The cost is $7 for adults and $3 for kids. Food and community is what will be dished out in heaping helpings. This meal is a Christmas tradition in our community and you are invited. Heart healthy vegan options will be made available if you let us know ahead.

We have Wi-Fi now at the Center so kids and adults are better satisfied not being cut off from their electronic devices. We also have a playground and a walking track, so bring the whole family and visit us. It’s a hate free zone and you are invited. Come and linger among friends.
