The public is invited to celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during the annual community breakfast at Hazard Community and Technical College. The breakfast will be held at the First Federal Center, beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 21. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Maria Braman, Vice President, Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer for Appalachian Regional Healthcare, Inc.
Dr. Braman moved to Hazard in March 2016 with her husband, Ben, and three children Kathryn, Kanye, and Jaylissa. She has an extensive career in medicine that has led her to become the Chief Medical Officer at ARH.
The student speaker for the event is Autumn Black. HCTC’s Kentucky School of Bluegrass and Traditional Music, under the direction of Scott Napier, will perform a musical tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
During the address, children are invited to participate in MLK Day games and activities including creating equity art displays to be carried in the march.
The march will begin immediately after the breakfast ceremony. Consolidated Baptist Church will host a ceremony following the march.
