Martin Luther King Jr. Day will be celebrated on Wednesday, Jan. 16, at Hazard Community and Technical College. The public is invited the two events that will include a guest speaker, singing, and other reflections on the life of Martin Luther King Jr.
At 10 a.m. on Jan. 16, a program will be held on the Hazard Campus in the First Federal Center in Room 123A and at 1 p.m. another program will be held at the Lees College Campus in the gym. “Service to Others” is the theme of this year’s events.
The speaker at the Hazard Campus event will be Dr. Rana Johnson, Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education’s first Chief Diversity Officer.
The speaker at the Lees College Campus will be Dr. Roger Cleveland. He is an assistant professor at Eastern Kentucky University. Cleveland was the director of the Division of Federal Programs & Instructional Equity at Kentucky Department of Education.
On Monday, Jan. 21, the community is invited to First Presbyterian Church in Hazard for a breakfast at 9 a.m. A march will begin at the church at 10:30 a.m., followed by a program at Consolidated Baptist Church.
