Letcher County’s Ashli Sexton examined a fetal pig prior to dissecting it during a session on anatomy that was part of the Health Career Enrichment Camp in Hazard. The three-week camp, which is introducing 30 eastern Kentucky students to a variety of health care careers, is hosted by the University of Kentucky Center for Excellence in Rural Health. Other sponsoring organizations include the UK College of Medicine and the Southeast Kentucky Area Health Education Center. Sexton, a rising freshman at Letcher County Central High School, is the daughter of Diana Sexton of Jeremiah. The camp will conclude with a June 28 awards banquet. All students with perfect attendance and who stay for each day’s entire program will receive a $500 stipend.
