Ashley Gilbert a community health worker from Whitesburg, has begin serving Letcher County clients.
Gilbert will accept clients Monday through Friday at the Kentucky Homeplace office inside the Letcher County Health Department, said Kentucky Homeplace Director Mace Baker.
Kentucky Homeplace services are provided free of charge and emphasize health care coordination and coaching. Gilbert provides support and assistance to help clients connect with local programs and services, access prescription assistance, heating assistance, and transportation to medical appointments. Free education is available to anyone wanting to lead a healthier lifestyle or improve management of conditions like diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure and COPD.
Gilbert previously was a pharmacy technician She is a native of Whitesburg and is the daughter of Roger and Patricia Gilbert. She is also a member of the Graham Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Kentucky Homeplace was created in 1994 by the University of Kentucky Center of Excellence in Rural Health to combat health disparities in rural areas of the state.
