Preliminary hearings are set for today (Wednesday) in Letcher District Court for two men and a woman from Ohio who were recently arrested by the Letcher County Sheriff ’s Department after several prescription narcotics were found in their possession.
Amber L. Amburgey, 31, of Fostoria, Ohio; Charles Lee Amburgey, 36, of Bloomville, Ohio; and Andrew M. Yonikus of Helena, Ohio, were arrested Dec. 2 near the Mayking Fire Department.
Letcher County Sheriff’s Deputy Tim Miller conducted a traffic stop on a 2001 maroon Dodge after he received a complaint that the vehicle was being used to transport illegal drugs from Ohio.
According to a police citation written by Miller, the operator of the vehicle appeared to accelerate and attempted to avoid Miller. After the vehicle stopped and consent to search was given, Miller wrote in the citation that he found seven 40-milligram OxyContin, 11 20- milligram OxyContin, eight 10-milligram OxyContin, 27 Percocet, 36 hydrocodone tablets and drug paraphernalia.
Each of the three persons was charged with four counts of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (OxyContin), one count of second-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (hydrocodone) and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Amber Amburgey, Charles Amburgey and Yonikus remain in the Letcher County Jail. Bond includes $10,000 cash or property for each of the three persons.
