Help for unemployed miners

The Eastern Kentucky Concentrated Employment Program, Inc. (EKCEP) will host three open enrollment events this month in Hazard, Pikeville, and Harlan so out-of-work eastern Kentucky coal miners may sign up for the new Hiring Our Miners Everyday (H.O.M.E.) initiative.

The events will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Dec. 12, at the Perry County Jobsight, 412 Campbell Drive, Hazard; Dec. 17 at the Pikeville Campus of Big Sandy Community and Technical College, 120 S. RIverfill Dr., Pikeville; and Dec. 19 at The Depot, 110 River St., Harlan. Those attending should bring their Social Security card and Kentucky driver’s license.

The initiative will help out-of-work miners — as well as their spouses and other staff at closed mining operations — get in place to receive support and training to get back in the workforce in new skilled job opportunities.
