Hemphill seniors sponsor several dinners

Hope everyone is staying warm during these cold winter days.

I would like to back up to the month of December. We had our Breakfast with Santa on the 12th at the Hemphill Community Center, and it was a success. Thank you, Santa, for your help and thanks to all the ladies who volunteered their time that morning to cook and clean up afterwards. We gave away the homemade quilt that day and the winner was David Webb from Lackey.

We also had a dinner for the Neon Fire Department and another for the Neon City Council and Police Department. We really enjoyed doing these dinners and visiting with all the people who came.

Thanks to Bob Bothis and his crew of carpenters we now have our bathrooms remodeled. We just have to find a warm day to go down and decorate them. We have a beautiful border to go in each bathroom.

We are also planning to paint a quilt square to hang on our building it seems like there is so much going on that we can’t find time to work on the square.

On Jan. 8, Cumberland Gap Connection was suppose to play but the weather was so bad they had to cancel. We will reschedule them at a later date.

A local band filled in for them called Mountain Melody. They have new band members now and they were a really good bluegrass band. The members are Wayne and Lola Taylor, their daughter Cindy, Nickey Joe Johnson, Thomas (The Train) Patrick and David Barnett. If you didn’t make it out to hear them that night you missed a great band.

Our schedule for the rest of January is: East KY Tyme, 15th; Gina Seals and her band, 22nd; Mountain Melody, 29th.

Please join us if you can. For more information, call 606- 855-7316 or 606-855-7737.

We would also like to thank fiscal court and Parks and Recreation for the wonderful playground equipment that was installed several months ago. The chil- dren of the community made really good use of it until the weather set in.

Our regular monthly meetings are the second Monday of every month at 6:30 p.m. Feel welcome to attend.
