Herbert Hoover Standifer, 87, died June 29 in Rutledge, Tenn.
Born at Cowan to the late David Hugh and Flora Blair Standifer, he was a great grandfather of the late Elijah Howard and a brother of the late Theodore Standifer, Cecil Standifer, Charlie Standifer, Carl Standifer, Irene Humphrey, Lorene Adams, Nancy Brown, Ethel Lewis and Audrey Standifer.
Mr. Standifer was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, and an avid fisherman. He enjoyed hunting, camping, and watching University of Kentucky basketball.
He worked at Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital and CSX Railroad.
Surviving are Pauline Campbell Standifer; a daughter, Debbie Howard and husband Bobby of Whitesburg; two sons, James Riley Standifer and wife Delayne of Whitesburg, and Bruce Standifer and wife Susan of Knoxville, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Josh Howard and wife Angela, Caleb Howard and wife Erica, Gabrielle Adams and husband Jonathan, and Rebecca Standifer, all of Whitesburg, Cynthia Standifer of Knoxville, Tenn., and Drew Standifer and wife Stephanie of Huntington, W.Va.; and eight great-grandchildren, Haleigh, Shelby, Brooklyn, Lucy, Damon, Brody, Shade and Arianna.
Funeral services for Mr. Standifer were held July 3 at the First Baptist Church in Whitesburg. Burial was in Green Acres Cemetery at Ermine.
