A quilt contest will once again be part of the Letcher County Mountain Heritage Festival.
Any Letcher County resident can enter the contest. Quilts must be entered at the County Extension Office on Wednesday, Sept. 19 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. There is no entry fee. Judges will judge the quilts and their decisions will be final. The extension office is located at 478 Extension Drive in Whitesburg.
Categories for the contest will be: 1. Machine appliqué (machine quilted) 2. Hand appliqué (hand quilted) 3. Hand pieced (hand quilted) 4. Machine pieced (hand quilted) 5. Machine pieced (machine quilted) 6. Novelty (stenciled, embroidered, miniature, etc., hand quilted) 7. Novelty ( stenciled, embroidered, miniature, etc. machine quilted) 8. Baby or lap quilt (hand quilted) 9. Technology based (hand or machine quilted) 10. Miscellaneous (hand or machine quilted) 11. Oldest quilt (age verified by owner)
GENERAL RULES FOR QUILT CONTEST
1. All quilts (except for the oldest) must have been completed within the last two years and must be clean and in good condition.
2. Identify quilt pattern when entering.
3. The individual quiltmaker must do all work on the quilt.
4. Each individual may enter no more than one quilt per category.
Quilts will be left on display until September 22. Quilts should be picked up by 3 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 1.
