Heritage quilt contest

A quilt contest will once again be part of the Letcher County Mountain Heritage Festival.

Categories for quilts are: 1. appliqué; 2. embroidery; 3. pieced (patchwork); 4. baby quilts; 5. miscellaneous; 6. oldest quilt (age verified by owner); 7. wallhanging.

All quilts, except for those entered in the oldest quilt category, must have been completed within the last three years and must be clean and in good condition. They must be twin size or larger, except for baby quilts, and hand quilted. Quilt patterns must be identified when entered. All work on the quilt must have been done by the individual quiltmaker. Work can be pieced by hand or machine, but appliqué and quilting must be done by hand. Each participant may enter only one quilt per category.

Any Letcher County resident may enter the contest. The quilt must be entered at the Letcher County Extension Office, 478 Extension Dr., Whitesburg on Monday, Sept. 21, between 8 am. and 4 p.m. There is no entry fee. Quilts will be on display until Sept. 25 and must be picked up by 3 p.m. on Sept. 28.
