Fleming-Neon 53rd District basketball champs!

The Fleming-Neon Pirates defeated the Jenkins Cavaliers, the 53rd District favorites, by an overwhelming score of 68 to 43. The Pirates were very excited about this game and were prepared to win. The Pirates could do nothing wrong, and the Cavaliers didn’t do anything right.

The Pirates received the opening tipoff, took the ball down the court and made the basket. Jenkins got the ball, took it up court, shot, and missed their basket. The Pirates got the ball for the second time and made another two points. The Pirates then led by a score of 4 to 0, and then kept the lead until the last second of the ball game.

On Saturday, the Pirates met the Whitesburg Yellowjackets in the championship game. After a hard-fought game, the Pirates defeated the Yellowjackets by a score of 52 to 39.

After the game, Coach Roberts received our trophy. The boys that received individual trophies were: Jimmy Harriston, Bug Yonts, Lovell Branch, and Casey Peake.

Being the 53rd District champs, the Pirates were entitled to play in the 14th Regional Tournament where they were to go up against Hazard.

The Pirates were defeated by Hazard with a score of 37 to 43.
