The senior trip
At 7 p.m. on Monday evening, April 24, 1967, families and friends gathered to see a laughing, happy group of 54 seniors, three sponsors, and Mr. Reasor, board two Greyhound buses for Washington, D.C. They were to travel all night and arrive in Washington around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.
The first thing on the agenda was to go to Union Central for a good cleaning up. After this, their guides were picked up and all went to Sholl’s for breakfast. This was to begin three exciting days of sightseeing the city.
The first place seen was the Washington Monument and in the days to follow visitations were made to Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Shakespearean Library, Mount Vernon, the Washington Cathedral, Franciscan Monastery, the FBI Building, the Bureau of Printing and Engraving, Arlington Cemetery, the Museum of Natural History, the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, the Smithsonian Institute, the Pentagon, the White House, the Capitol, the Library of Congress and the Supreme Court Building. Wednesday evening, at the Wax Museum, the students were all given flowers by “Granny”. The next day “Granny” had another gift for them . . . a necklace or bracelet for the girls and cufflinks and tie clasp for the boys.
Wednesday ended at the “Hot Shoppe” for a “Mighty- Mo” and a milkshake. The sponsors were considered special and received a piece of pie.
