1968

Class news

The senior class held one of the first meetings of the year on Sept. 25, 1967. Its purpose was to elect class officers and to elect two girls to represent their class in the Homecoming. The officers were: President, Willie Johnson; Vice-President, Kris Bentley; Secretary and Treasurer, Lavada Fulton.

The two senior homecoming queen candidates were Iris Reynolds and Elaine Combs. The seniors have been busily engaged in selling magazines. They are working toward the senior trip, which is scheduled for May 5, 1968. They have also been working at the home football games. They tell us they are also anxiously awaiting their class rings.

Juniors

The juniors also held their meeting to elect class officers and to elect two girls to represent their class in the Homecoming. The class officers were: President, Terry Anderson; Vice-President, Larry Phillips; Secretary, Roberta Collins; Treasurer, Wayne Bentley. The girls elected were: Sherry Wright and Joyce Baker.

The juniors have also started to raise money for the Junior-Senior Prom. Their first project is the selling of homecoming flowers. Good luck, juniors.

Sophomores

The sophomores held their meeting on the same day. They elected their officers. They were: President, Charlie Brown; Vice- President, Chan Fleming; Secretary and Treasurer, Theresa Hogg. They also elected two homecoming queen candidates. The two lucky girls were Patricia Hall and Starla Fleming.

Freshman

The freshman class as the other class held their first meeting to elect officers and their candidates for Homecoming. The officers were: President, Celesta Johnson; Vice-President, Doug Stallard; Secretary and Treasurer, Sammy Tilley. The girls elected were Teresa Stamper and Brenda Bentley.

Junior-Senior Prom

On May 11, 1968, the Junior-Senior Prom was held in the high school gym. The theme of the prom was “In Apple Blossom Time”. The juniors had the gym decorated lovely with colorful pictures and other lovely exhibits. The Penny Royals of Letcher, played at the prom. The juniors put in a lot of energy and hard work on the prom. We, the seniors, would like to thank them for a very lovely time and prom.

Club News

Future Teachers of America

The sponsor of the F.T.A. are Mr. Evanoff and Mr. Honeycutt. The purpose of the club is to acquaint students with teaching. It is hoped that each student will have a chance to teach a class. The main purpose of the club, however, is to publish the school newspaper.

The club plans a trip to a college in the spring.

The officers that were selected were President, Tim Rash; Vice-President, Gary Bentley; Secretary and Treasurer, Lavada Fulton.

Iris Reynolds was elected as Editor and Mary Jane Lively and Connie Meade were elected as co-editors.

Science Club

Mr. Mike Hall is the sponsor of this club. These students were elected as officers: President, Sammy McKinney; Vice-President, Al Stevens; Secretary and Treasurer, Karen Stewart. The purpose of the club is to interest students in the field of science.
