Holiday recipes through the eyes of children




Angie Bentley’s class at West Whitesburg Elementary School put together some recipes for Thanksgiving. Here are their instructions:

Pumpkin pie by Andrew Sexton

Buy a pumpkin. Make it into a jack-o-lantern. Take out the seeds. Make it in the oven for 40 minutes. Take it out. Let it cool.

Mustard greens by Ethen Tackett

Pick some mustard greens from the garden. Chop them up. Cook them for 20 or 30 minutes. Eat them.

Cornbread by Chase Webb

Take butter. Put it on the cornbread.

Cornbread by Lashay Holbrook

Pour milk in the cornbread. Stir it up, then put it in the oven. Bake for 10 minutes. Get it out. Then you eat it.

Turkey by Colby Pease

Get it out of the box. Cook it for 30 minutes. Put the stuffing in it. Get it out of the oven. Then eat it.

Turkey by Ava Fisher

Put it in the oven. Cook it for three hours. Take it back out and let it cool.

Hot rolls by Haley Amon

Put them in the oven. Cook it for 4 hours. Eat it.

Cornbread by Kylee Sandlin

Put milk in a bowl. Mix biscuits up with it. Put it in the oven. Bake it for about 20 minutes. Get it out. Cut it for people.

Peas by Isaiah Cook

Put salt in the peas. Put the peas in a pot. Put milk in it to make it taste good. Put some pepper in it. Put some carrots in it that are cut up in little pieces. Cook it for 30 minutes. Eat them.

Cornbread by Kerstin Back

First you put the cornbread stuff in the pan. Then pour milk in it. Then cook it for 3 or 4 minutes. Take it out and eat it.

Corn by Kammy Surber

Put the corn in a pot. Then put water. Then put salt and pepper. Bake it for 20 minutes. Get it out of the oven. Set it on the table. Let the people come and eat!

Turkey by Jaden Pugh

Get the turkey out of the refrigerator. Open the turkey out of the box. Mom cooks it for 4 seconds. Get it out and eat it.

Turkey by Shyenne Bates

Kill one. Then take the stuff out of it. Cook it for 3 minutes. Then eat it!

Hot rolls by Josie Bates

First you make bread with flour. Mix it. Then it’s a roll. Put it in the oven. Bake it for 30 minutes. Then you take it out and eat it.

Deviled eggs by Kellie Griffith

First you get some eggs. Then you cut them. Go to the refrigerator and get relish and mayonnaise. Take the yellow stuff out of the egg. Mix it with the relish and mayonnaise. Put them back in the egg. Then put them in the refrigerator.

Mashed potatoes by Makayla Slone

Peel the potatoes. Mash them, then cook them for 60 minutes. Eat them!

Turkey by Nora Hall

Kill the turkey. Pluck the feathers out. Chop its head off. Bake it for about 30 minutes, then eat it.

Open the can of corn. Put it into a bowl. Put it in the microwave. Cook it for 10 seconds. Get it out, then you can eat it.

Turkey by Kyleigh Banks

Go get a turkey. Then cook it for 15 minutes. Put it in a bowl and eat it.

Turkey by Logan Martin

Put chicken in a plate. Bake it for 30 minutes. Cool it down, then eat it.

Deviled eggs by Tod Looney

Get eggs. Cook them for 30 minutes. Cut the top off of them. Put salt and other stuff in them. Eat them.

Hot rolls by Zack Hensley

Get them at Food City. Take them home. Put them in the oven for 5 seconds. Let them cool off. Put them back in the oven for 10 seconds. Then put one spoon of salt on them. Put butter on them. Then put them back in the oven to let the butter attach. Let them cool and eat them.

Turkey by Creed Warf

Season the turkey. Bake it for 30 minutes, then put stuffing in it. Bake it for maybe another hour. Get it out of the oven. Put it on a plate, so you can eat it.

Deviled eggs by Sam Mullins

First you need eggs. Next you crack the shell open. After you crack it open, you got to cut the white part open. Take the yellow part, you can add your own ingredients. Put it inside the white part. Then serve it.

Put it in the oven. Bake it for 30 seconds. Eat it.

Turkey by Ashley Vanover

Kill your turkey. Clean it. Roast it in the oven for 30 minutes. Season it. Stuff it with pineapple and cranberries. Make a barbecue sauce to put on it. Put the sauce on it. Eat it!

First you got to have water. Then clean your potatoes. Then you need to peel them. Next mash them. Then you turn off the water. Then you eat them.

Put water in a pot. Put the turkey in it. Put it in the oven. Cook it for 15 minutes, then get it out. Cut it and slice it. Eat it.

Blackberry cobbler by Allison Collier

Put blackberries in the oven and put some sugar on them. Cook for 11 minutes. Then you eat it.

Deviled eggs by Hayden King

Get some eggs. Cut the top off the eggs. Then you cook them for 6 hours. Then you eat them.

Corn by Brianne Sexton

Put butter in the pan. Put corn in there. Turn on the stove. Put the pot on the stove and stir it. Cook if for 6 minutes. Eat it.

Green beans by Hagen Fowler

You put the beans in a bowl. Then turn the stove on and wait until it gets done. Cook it for 5 minutes. Take it out and then you eat it.

You get a can of green beans. Then pour it in a bowl. Cook them for 1-3 minutes. Then you eat them.

Apple pie by Mackenzie Collins

Take apples. Put them in a pan. Put cinnamon on them. Put them in the oven. Cook them for about 20 seconds. Then eat it!

Salad by Dakota Morton

Put lettuce in a bowl. Put some Ranch in a bowl. Sometimes you might put bacon bits. You can sometimes put other stuff you like, like baby carrots. Maybe sometimes broccoli. You can put corn too if that is what you like it. Use a fork to eat the salad.

Get the rolls out of the refrigerator. Put it in the oven. Cook for 3 or 4 hours. Then eat it.

First you put the bone and then you put the turkey on it. Then you set it in the oven. Cook it for probably seven minutes. Then we eat it.

Put beans in a pot. Put flour in them. Cook them for 30 seconds. Get them out.

You put water in a bowl. Then you put sugar in that bowl. Then you put mayonnaise in the bowl. You need pepper and mustard in the bowl. Mix it all together. Put it all in the turkey. Cook it for 30 minutes.

Put milk in the butter. Get the bowl. Put potatoes and butter in the bowl. Put flour in it. Cook it for three hours. Then take them out and eat it.

Put the turkey in a pot. Cook it for 20 minutes. Get it out. Put salt on it. Put ketchup on it. Eat it.

Turkey by Taylor Cook Put some water in a bowl. Put the turkey in it. Boil if for 4 seconds. Add some milk to it. Put some salt on it. Then eat it.

Peas by Austin Maschino

Put the mashed potatoes in the peas. Then put it in the microwave for 10 minutes. Then you eat it.

Spinach by Dalton Combs

Add grease on the stove. Put spinach in that cooker. Then eat it.

Spinach by Chase Stewart

Put oil on the spinach. Add some milk. Add some lettuce.

Turkey by Daniel Adams

Stuff it. Put it in the stove. Take it out and eat it.

Spinach by Jacob Collins

Stir it up in a kettle. Put them in the oven and bake them for 10 minutes. Stir them up again. Take them out of the oven. Then get some more spinach and put them in the oven. Take all of it out of the oven. Then spread the spinach out.

Put some milk in the mashed potatoes. Put it in the oven. Bake them for 45 minutes. Take it out. Eat it!

Turkey by Diondre Carter

Put it in the oven. Let it cook for 5 or 10 minutes. Then you wait for a minute. Let it cook some more. Then you get it out when it’s done and eat it.

Turkey by Caleb Nichols

You get the turkey. Cook it for all night. You eat the turkey.

Corn on the cob by Elexis Craft

First you shuck it. Then you put it in a pan that’s got hot water on it that’s on the stove. You keep it in there for one hour. Then you can eat it.

Get flour. Put water in it. Then mix it up, and put it in a pan. Put it in the oven. Take them out when they’re done.

Open the can. Put them in the pot. Turn the stove on. Cook them for 7 minutes or 20 minutes. Then get them out of the pot and put them in a pan. Then you eat them.

Get a pan. Put a bag of peas in it. Cook it for 10 minutes.

Get corn. Put it in the stove. Cook it for 3 minutes. Get it out. Put it in a bowl and eat it.

Put the corn on the grill. Flip it. Go get a plate. Then my dad put it on it. Then we pray, and then we eat.

Put corn in salad. Put lettuce. Put in some beans.

Put it in the oven. Turn the oven on. Leave it in for 60 minutes. Then eat it.

Get it ready to cook. Then we cook it for 10 minutes, and then we eat it.

Cut up lettuce. Add eggs. Put bacon bits on there. Pour on Ranch dressing.

Put carrots in it. Put potatoes in it. Put peas in it. Put them in a pan. Let it cook for 5 minutes. Then you eat it.

Salad by Hayley Kilbourne

Put lettuce in a bowl. Put some tomatoes, almonds, and I usually like some Ranch dressing. Then you can eat it.

Peas by Pamela Collins

Pick the peas out of the garden. Put them in a pan. Cook them for an hour. Eat them.

Apple pie by Mackenzie Stidham

Put apples in the apple pie. Then put it in the microwave. Cook it for 30 seconds. Get it out. Next you can eat it.

Salad by Kane Wampler

Get some lettuce and some crunchies. Cut the lettuce up and put it in a bowl. Then put it in the refrigerator.

Green beans by Shelby Profitt

Boil some water. Put the green beans in it. Put in some salt and pepper. Cook for 30 minutes.

Cornbread by Jacob Reed Get some corn. Get some bread. Get it in the oven until it gets done, probably about an hour and a half.

Spinach by Zachary Polly

Put corn and beans in the spinach. Put it in a bowl and stir it.

Turkey by Emilee Adams

Put chicken in it. Cook it for 2 minutes.

Pumpkin pie by Abby Bentley

Add pumpkin. Take the top off. Get the seeds out. Make sure you throw the seeds in the garbage. Put the pumpkin in the pan. Put the pumpkin in the oven. Make sure it turns into pumpkin pie. Then eat it!

Turkey by Dylan Flick

Put the turkey in a big pan. Put the pan in the oven. Leave it in the oven for two minutes. Take it out. Let it cool. Then pour that stuff in the pan all over it. Then eat it.

Take mashed potatoes and mix it with peas. Put it in the microwave for two and a half minutes. Take it out. Let it cool for a half hour. Put some green beans in it. Make sure they’re cooked. That’s it.
