Homemakers exchange ornaments

Just a quick column this week, and I’ll start out wishing everyone a merry Christmas and happy New Year.

A large crowd attended the singing and refreshments last Friday evening at Blair Branch Church. It was a good time to fellowship and remember the Lord with singing and praise. All seemed to enjoy the service. Plus we received a large amount of donations of canned and boxed food for the Food Pantry. Jeremiah

A lot of the Letcher Area Homemakers met last Monday at the Letcher County Extension Office for the annual ornament exchange and refreshments. Ann Bradley started this years ago for the Homemakers throughout the county to get together at Christmas, but this year it was mostly our club.

Coreen Pridemore and I attended the funeral for Gracie Adams Ison held at Isom Presbyterian Church. She was Mom’s first cousin and Rodney Ison, Tommy Harris Smith and Mary Jo Blair, also first cousins, attended.

Gracie’s sister-in-law, Cornie Adams, had been checking on her often, and Grace was blessed to have had good ladies staying with her during her long illness. I think she had been homebound for over 10 years.

Her daughter and grandchildren all lived away, but I know they appreciate those who came out to remember Gracie.

Clell Riley also died last week. He hadn’t been well in a long time, and ‘Pug’ will surely miss him. Our sympathy goes out to his family and friends. His brother Herschel and wife Mary Lou were here for Clell’s and Gracie’s funerals.

Irene Dixon was given a surprise birthday party by her family and friends. She seems to be doing well and always has a pleasant smile when you visit her.

Liberty Campbell and Arnetta Mae Slone of Black Bottom also had birthdays on the 19th. I hope both had a good day.

Roy Kenon and Anna Lou Blair of Lexington came up while they were here and Ford Pridemore, also of Lexington, came up to visit and attend Blair Branch services last Friday night.

Rodney and Geraldine Ison had Mike, Sharon and their granddaughters, Mary and Stella, visiting over the weekend.

Allen and Ruby Meyers will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on Dec. 31 with cake and punch at the Jeremiah Missionary Baptist Church from 2 to 4 p.m. It will be given by their children and they invite everyone to come and congratulate them, but please, no gifts, just your presence will be a blessing.
