Howard family sets reunion for Oct. 22

Hello everyone. I hope you are all doing okay. How are you liking this cool weather? I think we are beginning to have fall early.

The trees are beginning to change color. I hope they will be real pretty this year, that’s such a pretty time.

We are having our Howard family reunion on Oct. 22. We had it on the 16th last year and the trees were not quite at their peak. Hopefully this year it will be even more beautiful. Our reunion will be on Pine Mountain on Jamie Pennington’s property where we had it last year. I hope lots of our family can make it. It’s so hard to find a good time for everyone. Jobs can have a lot to do with it. We understand that.

I’ll tell you what, Whitesburg is so beautiful right now. Pretty flowers everywhere, and they have been the prettiest I’ve ever seen and the blooms keep hanging on.

I hope lots of our misplaced friends can make it in for the Mountain Heritage and see what they’ve been missing. The festival has already started, some of it.

My friend, Betty Asher of Columbus, Ind. is on her way here now. Her mother, the late Beulah Hall, was my good friend and neighbor for many years. I still miss her. Whitesburg

We always have a big crowd here every year, and the people work hard getting it up and going. We see people we haven’t seen in years.

My cousin, Dorothy Miles of Cowan, is in Hazard Hospital. She had a heart attack — maybe two — and is doing better. I hope she will be well soon. She is a busy lady when she is well.

The people who haven’t been to Whitesburg in a long time will see some big changes — our big Health Department building and a very big athletic building that’s almost finished; our roads are better and we have added lanes that have sure helped us.

Does it sound like I’m bragging? Sure I am. I love it here!

I went to a tent revival here recently, and really enjoyed it. Bro. Donald Harding and Bro. Glennis Morris were the ministers. I met people there I had never seen. I appreciate Elmer Webb telling me he enjoyed my news. It makes you want to keep on keeping on.

I read over mine every week and think it’s so boring, and I read the others and say, “They do a good job on theirs, I think I’ll quit.” If a lot of interesting things are going on, you have something to write about, and if you don’t, you rattle on like I do. I write whatever I think.

My son, Bill Hatton, and I went to the Pine Mountain Grill for breakfast as usual, and the Frazier brothers were there, Gerald, Doug and Rokie. I think it’s so nice to see family get together.

I’d better say hello to my little brother, Hillard Howard, in Florida and his wife, Marsha. I miss our coffee breaks at 5:30 a.m. I have to drink alone. It’s not as much fun.

My friend Betty Asher of Columbus, Ind., made it in. I enjoyed seeing her and her son, Curt Asher, and his wife. Betty will be staying for Mountain Heritage.

Our church will be having a four-day revival with Bro. David Miller next week. It’s the Whitco Pentecostal Church. Our pastor, Bro. John Conn, and the congregation welcome everyone. You will certainly enjoy it.

May God bless all of you and try to be in church next week if you are able. I hope you come to our revival.
