Hughes wins dramatic competition



Carlton W. Hughes, professor of communications at Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College, Cumberland campus, won first place in the Church Dramas/Plays category at the Blue Ridge Mountains Christian Writers Conference held recently at Ridgecrest Conference Center in Asheville, N.C.

This is the second consecutive year Hughes has placed first in the category, and this year his entry was a Christmas play entitled: Church Christmas Musical, a spoof of Disney’s High School Musical. He penned the play for his church, Lynch Church of God, where he serves as children’s pastor.

Blue Ridge is a Christian writers conferences, designed to train and encourage writers for the inspirational market. While at the conference, Hughes studied various areas of the writing craft under award-winning authors such as Eva Marie Everson, Susan May Warren, Todd Starnes of the Fox News Network, and Steven James.

Hughes is also a faculty member and publications chair/blog administrator for the Kentucky Christian Writers Conference, to be held June 22-23 in Elizabethtown.
