Carlton Hughes, Professor of Communication at Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College Cumberland campus, recently won first place in the “Church Dramas/ Plays” category in the Blue Ridge Mountains Christian Writers (BRMCWCC) Conference Contest for Unpublished Writers at Ridgecrest Conference Center in Asheville, N.C.
To qualify, entrants must not have been officially published in that particular category. This is the second year in a row that Hughes has placed first in this category
This year his entry was a Christmas play, “Church Christmas Musical”, a spoof of Disney’s “High School Musical”. He penned the play for his church, Lynch Church of God, where he serves as children’s pastor. Hughes has been writing material for the church and for other outlets for 14 years.
He has published numerous articles in newspapers and in magazines and had an essay published in the book Simple Little Words from David C. Cook Publishers.
Blue Ridge is one of the nation’s premier Christian Writers Conferences, designed to train and encourage writers for the evergrowing inspirational market — see www.brmcwc.com coordinated by Christian author Alton Gansky. While at BRMCWC, Hughes studied various areas of writing craft under awardwinning authors such as Eva Marie Everson, Susan May Warren, Todd Starnes of the Fox News Network, and Steven James, among others.
Hughes is also a faculty member and Publications Chair/Blog Administrator for Kentucky Christian Writers Conference, to be held June 22-23 in Elizabethtown.
Hughes, a graduate of Jenkins High School, has been on the faculty of SKCTC for 22 years.
