Icy roads create ‘little old lady’ drivers

Northeast Ohio

Howdy to all you dear people and I hope you have had a better day there than here. We’ve had snow flurries off and on all day, which I can sort of overlook, but the icy winds do get to me.

I had an early appointment this morning, but it wasn’t too bad driving down our street as school children were walking so I had to drive slow anyway. But when I got to our main streets, they were a sheet of ice, so contrary to my usual way of driving, I had to drive like an old lady. Which was okay, as everyone else was driving like an old lady.

Don’t get me wrong, I really don’t speed too much and am a fairly good driver.

I had a good week, starting Sunday when my niece, Debbie (Sergent) Resor, her two children, Cassie and Ben Provoznic, and Debbie’s stepdaughter, Kristen Resor, stopped by for a couple of hours.

They came bearing goodies, a dozen donuts from Dunkin’ Donuts, and I had made a heart-shaped pineapple upside-down cake for Red on Valentine’s Day. He isn’t much for cake except stack cake and pineapple.

I think we both prefer pie, but what did I do a short while ago? Baked a chocolate chip cake and I am going to take a break and have a slice while it’s still warm and gooey.

I was talking about my week, but took a side trip.

I had another surprise visit from dear friend Liz. I just love that gal and always enjoy her visits. I had phone calls from two special people, baby brother Ron called from Hawaii to tell me they were leaving for home the next day, so they are home now. If their weather in Alabama is cold, snowy or rainy, I’m sure they are wishing they could just get on a plane and get back to the warm sand and sunshine.

The other call was from that sweet cousin from California, Eva Dale Douglas.

I’ve got company right now, Richard and Georgia came by and had some green beans, boiled potatoes, coleslaw, cornbread and cake. Catharine got off early and is also eating.

Redia called earlier, said Sue Meade, Denver’s wife, had fallen in a garage while visiting a son in Kentucky or West Virginia, and said she had some broken ribs and punctured a lung.

She is wanting to come home. Why is it when we are hurting or sick the only place you want to be is home?

Sue, I am so sorry and I do hope you aren’t in too much pain and will feel better real soon. Love and prayers to you and all your family.

Well, gotta get this finished and ready for Cat to get on its way tonight. She has to work a double tomorrow.

So until next time, stay well, be happy and have a good one.
