Icy road conditions made the night of December 4 dangerous for motorists and busy for police.
Jenkins Police Chief Jim Stephens said 15 wrecks were reported in Letcher County last Thursday night, including a truck that jackknifed on U.S. 119 at Payne Gap around 11:30 p.m.
Letcher County Sheriff Danny Webb said six wrecks occurred in different parts in the county at about 10:30 p.m., with one wreck involving a tractortrailer stuck on U.S. 119 near Pine Mountain. Police in Neon worked three wrecks with personal injuries, and Kentucky State Police worked one wreck in Haymond and one in Colson.
State police say five injury collisions and three non-injury collisions were reported to KSP from 8 p.m. December 4 until 8 a.m. December 5. No fatalities were reported.
