Hello everyone, hope you are all doing well and getting the spirit of Christmas and remember what it’s about.
I think it’s gotten way out of proportion. Nowadays it seems to be all giving and getting. I liked it better when it was different.
Oh well, I had better get off my soapbox. I know I’m old fashioned and people tell me I’ve never changed and I really haven’t. I’m happy and content to be me. I’d like to be a better me and I’ll keep trying to be.
Late happy birthday to Geneva Sturgill. I know how old you are, but I ain’t telling and you sure don’t look it.
This has been a sad week for funerals. I went to Wilma Bennett’s. I’ve known the family for many years and her son Gary Joe has been a special friend and the rest of the family also. I sat with a good friend, Loraine Collins, and we enjoyed all the good singing and preaching and seeing so many friends there, a very large crowd.
I really liked the story of the Caudill brothers, Willis and Charles. They grew up just down the road from me. They were all good people. I liked the fact they didn’t want to retire. So many people don’t want to work. I’m proud of you, Willis and Charles. I’ve known you about all your lives.
Bro. Jamie Niece preached for us Tuesday night and I think that was his very best. He always does good and we are proud, very proud to have him in our church and our other preachers also, Bro. Caleb Howard, Rodney Allen, Donald Enfusse, Delmar Butler, Jonathan Adams and his son Dawson and of course our pastor, Bro. John Conn. If you know him, you love him. He reaches out to so many people.
We certainly want to thank Judah Niece (Jamie’s wife) and Erica Howard (Caleb’s wife) for decorating our church. It is so beautiful! They want to thank all the people who donated money to pay for the decorations. They worked so hard and we appreciated it. They really did a great job.
We will be having a Christmas play at our church on Dec. 22. I know it will be good.
We lost another friend, Pauline Adams, who came to the Ermine Center. I went to her funeral. It was good seeing a lot of the people there. Bro. Rhuford Hart preached and he and his wife Colleen sang a pretty song.
They go to the Ermine Center also. I haven’t been up there in a while. We’ve lost a lot of them, Richard Adams, Lennon Hammock and Yvonne and so many more.
My son Billy Hatton and I went to Pine Mountain Grill for breakfast on Wednesday and we saw Earl Napier and his wife. We always look for him. We love talking to him. He always comes over to our table.
He was a good friend of my brother Eddie Howard. We still miss Eddie so bad, especially the holidays. He left us so suddenly on Memorial Day.
I went to the funeral of Margie Sturgill of Dry Fork on Thursday. There was a large crowd there. She had a large family and a lot of friends. Everyone liked her. Our sympathy goes out to her family. I’ve known the family for many years.
I just heard Christine Fields’s husband James Fields died. I read in her news he was real sick. Our sympathy goes out to Christine and her family. They had moved back here for retirement. I went to his funeral on Sunday. I didn’t know him, but I’ve always read Christine’s news and feel like I know here. I knew her mom and dad and some of the family. I sat with Judy Fields, who goes to our church. It was good seeing her and also Frank and Jenny Adams of King’s Chapel Church. They were so good to my late aunt Bernie and Russell Howard at Ermine Church. I appreciated that.
Our Howard Christmas party will be on Dec. 21 at Cowan Community Center. I hope the weather will be good with no snow and ice.
Please pray for all our people who are sick, Sonia Fields, Steve Taylor, Shirley and Carfa Niece, Kathleen Brock and all that are sick.
May God bless all of you and try to be in church somewhere if you are able.
