March has been named Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, and the Letcher County Health Center and Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital will host a tour of the “Incredible Colon” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., March 26, at the Letcher County Recreation Center.
The three-dimensional inflatable exhibit is provided by the Perry County Cancer Coalition and Kentucky Cancer Program. Dr. Dustin Campbell, a WARH surgeon, will be on hand to answer questions. University of Kentucky Rural Cancer Prevention Center staff will enroll eligible participants (50-75 years old or younger if a family member has been diagnosed with colorectal cancer) in a research study. Participants will receive a $20 gift card.
WARH will provide free blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol checks. Mountain Comprehensive Health Care will give information on how to sign up for black lung benefits, Kynect, Medicare Part D and Advantage Plan.
