‘Jake’ Mullins dies at 58

Thomas Jeffrey “Jake” Mullins, 58, of McRoberts, died May 1 at the Greg & Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center in Hazard.

A son of the late Bertley Edward and Daisey Marie Blevins Mullins, he was a brother of the late Elsie Marie Ratliff.

Mr. Mullins was a retired coal miner with more than 30 years of experience and attended the Fleming-Neon Church of God. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid ginseng hunter. He was also known for the grapevine wreaths that he made.

Surviving are his companion of nearly 20 years, Melissa Hall of McRoberts; two daughters, Autumn Geiger and husband Paul of Jenkins, and Jolene Mullins of McRoberts; two sons, Jacob Mullins and wife Ashley of Somerset, and Bertley Mullins of McRoberts; two grandchildren, Adalee Mullins and Fayble Mullins; six sisters, Connie Mullins of Haymond, Lucille Little and husband Donnie of Hellier, Patricia Ann Johnson and husband Dan of Jackhorn, Arlene Stewart and husband Richard of Jackhorn, Gracie Beard and husband Jeff of Brookwood, Ala., and Amanda Bentley and husband Landis of Deane; three brothers, Larry Mullins of Vance, Ala., Emory “Fudge” Mullins and wife Patsy of Neon, and Daniel Mullins of Haymond; and a special cousin Ellis Blevins.

Funeral services were held May 4 at the Fleming- Neon Church of God. Graveside services will take place at noon today (Wednesday, May 5) at the Mullins family cemetery at Haymond.

Family and friends are asked to meet at the Fleming- Neon Church of God by 11 a.m. today to prepare to go in procession to the cemetery.
