James Butler Day succumbs at 80



James Butler Day, age 80, of Beavercreek, Ohio, died June 24.

Born in Kingscreek to the late Butler and Panny Hogg Day, he was graduated from Whitesburg High School in 1957, and then from the University of Kentucky with bachelor of science and master of science degrees in Mechanical Engineering.

Mr. Day enjoyed a long and distinguished career at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and other industry leaders as a technical expert and organizational leader in the field of jet engine propulsion.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, reading, and sharing his love of history and genealogy with those around him.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Jowanda Davis Day; two daughters, Katharine Treml and husband Brian of Lebanon, Oh., and Elizabeth Day and husband Wade of Amherst, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Alexandra and Vanessa Treml; seven brothers and sisters, Shelia Taylor, Roger Day and wife Priscilla, Tony Day and wife Alene, Ronnie Day and wife Cathie, Millie Banks and husband David, Rickey Day and wife Jill, and Judy Jolly and husband James; and a half-sister, Brenda Kimball.

A private burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Dayton, Oh. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the charity of your choice.
