James D. Osley Sr. dies in Lexington

Former Jenkins resident James D. Osley Sr., 88, died May 22 in Lexington.

A former member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Jenkins where he served as deacon, he became a member of the Bethsaida Baptist Church after moving to Lexington.

He was a member and treasurer of the Masonic Lodge David Temple #110, a member of the Pitians, and president of the United Mine Workers Union.

Surviving are his wife, Beatrice Osley; 15 children, Mary Thomas, Flora Copeland and husband Jewel, Susie Gray and husband William, James Osley Jr. and wife Anna, Jacquline Jackson and husband Samuel, Shirley Gray and husband Lesley, Robert Osley, William Osley and wife Needa, Anna Price, Rosa Peake and husband Steve, Cornelia Combs and husband Jeff, Sabrina Pinkston and husband William, Doretha Harris and husband Stanley, and Katrina Osley; a sister, Corine Tucker and husband Alfred; a brother, Alfred Osley and wife Dartha; 40 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
