James David Griffith, 56, of Whitesburg, died December 7 at Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital.
Born in Seco to Minerva Gibson Griffith of Whitesburg and the late Dewey Griffith, he was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
He had taught martial arts for 42 years, and was a member of the Black Belt Hall of Fame.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Laura Griffith; two sons, James “J.D” Griffith and wife Misty of Neon, and Jonathan
Griffith of Baltimore, Md.; a daughter, Christy Collins and husband David of Neon; a brother, Robert Ronnie Griffith of Georgia; a sister, Pauline Miller of Tennessee; seven grandchildren, Jordan Paige, Taner Lee, Taylor Lynn, Skylar, Jepatha, Christian and Brody; and three great-grandchildren, Arieana, Remington and Zoey Piper.
Funeral services for Mr. Griffith were held December 11 at the Cornerstone Church in Whitesburg. Burial was in Gibson Cemetery at Neon.
