Funeral services for James “Jay” E. Holcomb, 85, of Tiffin, Ohio, will be held at 10 a.m. today, January 21, at the Grave Baptist Church in Ohio. Burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery in Ohio.
Born in Whitesburg to the late James and Lennie Cook Halcomb, he died January 17 at Volunteers of America Autumnwood Care Center in Tiffin, Oho.
He was the widower of Louvena “Lou” Caudill, and a brother of the late Lenville Halcomb, Ollie Craft, Emmaline Ison and Norma Jean Cornett.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and Grace Baptist Church, and was a former owner of Jay’s Carpet Sales for almost 40 years.
He served in the U. S. Army as a paratrooper and glider pilot with the 82nd Airborne, and re-enlisted as a tank commander with Company B, 57th Tank Battalion. He was a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans.
Surviving are a son, Michael Wayne Holcomb and wife June of Tiffin, Oh.; three daughters, Donna Sue Morris and husband Rick of Gainesville, Fla., Judith Gail Brommer and husband Sam of Tiffin, Oh., and Jamie Renee Dyson and husband Jay of Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Faye Mohr and husband Norman of LaBelle, Fla.; eight grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren.
