Janet Hargis dies at 68

Janet Mar ie Helton Wheeler Hargis, 68, died May 1 at her home in Killen, Ala.

Born in Letcher County to the late Thomas Jefferson Helton and Edna Niece Helton, she was a sister of the late Della Marcum, Yvonne Hall, Mary Ruth Johnson and Theresa Noble.

Ms. Hargis was also preceded in death by three brothers-in-law, Ed Marcum, Buck Hall and Ted Noble.

She was an employee of International Paper Company for more than 30 years.

Surviving are three children,

Marci Wheeler of Lusby, Md., Jason Wheeler of Georgetown, S.C., and Natalie Scott of Killen, Ala.; three grandsons, Aaron Collins of Killen, Ala., and Liam Millican and Jacob Wheeler, both of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a brother, Thomas Jefferson Helton and wife Debbie of Talbott, Tenn., a sister, Annette Lee of Georgetown, S.C., and two friends who were like daughters, Christy Thomas and Deanna Altman.

No services will be held but a small ceremony will be conducted in July on the beach in Pawley’s Island, S.C.
