An enjoyable — and much easier — form of yoga is being offered in private each Saturday at the Jenkins City Swimming Pool in Jenkins.
“Aqua yoga” is practiced in the shallow end of the pool, so even if you cannot swim you can still practice safely. The exercise is particularly good for those who wish to practice yoga but may have difficulty with mobility, range of motion, and inflammation in the joints and find it more challenging practicing on land. It will improve balance, joint pain, blood pressure, arthritis, sciatica, posture, stress and anxiety. A person is better able to gain the benefits of yoga in a less strenuous manner making it ideal for seniors and yet it is also good for people of all ages.
The hour-long class begins at 11 a.m. each Saturday. The cost is $5 for the class, plus a $5 pool feel. What to bring with you? Just yourself. Come as you are, wear a swimsuit, a cover-up, shorts and t-shirt or whatever you feel comfortable in. The class is held privately before the pool opens to the public.
Yoga an ancient art that people have practiced for thousands of years based on connecting the mind, body and soul. By having a consistent practice the body is able to gain mental focus, improve flexibility, build stronger bodies, improve the functioning in the respiratory, circulatory, digestive and hormonal systems.
The class is being taught by Kasi Spangler of Mayking, who has had 200 hours of training in Ashtanga yoga. She has practiced yoga for 14 years. Persons wishing more information may contact Spangler at kasispangler@yahoo.
