Jenkins Independent Schools will start the new year with two new board members and a new board chairman.
Current Board Chair Tracy Goff, who did not seek reelection to the board in the 2016 election, was honored by the board for his 16 years of service to the system at the December meeting. Goff and his family were presented with a plaque and certificate of appreciation for his service.
The December meeting was a short one and following the presentation to the Goff family, District Finance Officer Candala Gibson introduced auditor Madgel Miller of Cloyd and Associates in London, who told the board the audit had received a clean opinion with no questions. Gibson said the General Fund stands at $647,173.41 at present. She also reported that the Kentucky SEEK (Support Education Excellence in Kentucky) appropriation, which was budgeted at $2.5 million, was reduced to $2.3 million. Gibson said she reduced the district budget to show the new figure.
Student enrollment now stands at 449 for the system and attendance stands at 93 percent.
