Jenkins cleanup, a job well done

To the Editor:

To Sarah Brown, B/D/N Committee Chairperson & Committee, I, as Mayor want to thank you and your committee for a job well done in the recent cleanup of Jenkins.

Thanks for having the cleanup organized, and having the money to reward those groups who participated.

Thanks for the tee-shirts and food for all of the hard workers. I know that the young and old enjoyed the Giovanni’s Pizza after the cleanup was completed.

Thanks for the city workers who helped with the cleanup. Their help was invaluable to the effort.

Thanks to Coach Larry Maggard for having the middle and grade school football players available for the cleanup. I hope they learned a valuable lesson that no one should litter. Having a clean environment in the future depends on them.

The cleanup netted 70 bags of garbage, and seven truckloads of brush and debris from 805. It is hoped that the State Highway Department can clean out the ditch lines and culverts on this road, and other local state highways.

The City of Jenkins wants to thank everyone who contributed in any way to another successful cleanup. Remember efforts like this can once again make Jenkins a “jewel” in the mountains.

D. CHARLES DIXON Mayor City of Jenkins
