Jenkins fire was arson

Police say a fire that destroyed a storage room and bathroom located in the same building as a restaurant and antique shop in Jenkins was started by an arsonist.

Jenkins Police Chief Jim Stephens said the state fire marshal’s investigation determined that someone started a fire that damaged Nina and Sons restaurant and an antique shop owned by Tony Hall. The fire started during the early hours on February 3. A suspicious vehicle was seen near the scene of the fire, said Stephens.

“Nina’s restaurant sustained heat and smoke damage,” said Stephens. “The storage and bathroom area is a complete loss.”

Jenkins and Fleming- Neon fire departments responded to the scene. Stephens credited the fire departments for containing the fire to the middle of the building, which is located on Highway 805 on the east end of Jenkins.

The restaurant recently closed.

“It was a real nice place,” said Stephens. “It will be missed.”
