The 2021 season has ended for Letcher County’s two boys’ high school basketball teams.
The Letcher County Central Cougars fell to the Cordia Lions, 79-76, in Saturday’s opening round of the four-team 53rd District Tournament at Ermine.
The Jenkins Cavaliers bowed out Monday in the 59th District Tournament at Pikeville, falling to East Ridge High, 80-40. That tournament also featured four teams, with East Ridge advancing to Thursday’s championship game against the Pikeville- Shelby Valley winner.
The Cavaliers ended their season with a won-loss record of 2-16, with six of the losses coming on COVID-related forfeits .
With the loss to Cordia, Letcher Central ended its season with a won-loss record of 11-10. Cordia fell Monday night, 81-60, to tourney champion Knott Central, which had advanced to the finals by easily defeating June Buchanan in Saturday’s opening round, 78-45.
Both Knott Central and Cordia advance to the 14th Regional Tournament.
