The Jenkins High School Cavaliers and the Letcher County Central Cougars each lost their first-round games in the Kentucky High School Athletics Association playoffs over the weekend.
Letcher Central fell to the Pulaski County school Southwestern in the first round of the Class 5 playoffs, 49-0. In the first round of the Class 1A playoffs, Jenkins fell to Pineville, 50-22. Both games were on the road.
Jenkins ended the season with a record of one win and 10 losses, while Letcher Central finished its campaign with a mark of four wins and seven losses.
According to KHSAA statistics, Avery Stamper led Letcher Central’s defense during the regular season with 80 total tackles. Triston Polly had 35 total tackles, while Tyler Isaac had 34 tackles and Kyler Sturgill 33.
Quade Adams and Preston Maggard led the team in scoring, with 30 points each. The team’s leading receivers were Tanner Lucas (794 yards on 36 receptions),
Blake Brashears (341 yards on 17 receptions), Quade Adams (279 yards on 33 receptions), and Gage Isaac (192 yards on 10 receptions).
Quarterback Nick Sergent ended the regular season with 103 pass completions out of 199 attempts for 1,755 yards and 18 touchdowns. He averaged 176 yards per game.
Preston Maggard led the Cougars rushing attack with 335 yards on 76 carries, while Quade Adams rushed for 282 yards on 80 carries.
