Jenkins police charge Va. man after wreck




A Virginia man involved in a single-vehicle wreck was arrested Monday on several drug-related charges.

Lt. Brian Damron of the Letcher County Sheriff ’s Department said Nicholas Buchanan, 32, of 330 Kitty Lane, Clintwood, Va., drove off US 23 near Joe’s Branch on Dec. 12 and hit a guardrail. Witnesses at the scene said Buchanan hid drugs in his vehicle.

Damron found marijuana in and around the vehicle as well as about two ounces of marijuana on Buchanan. Damron also found a gun. Buchanan tried to throw away multiple controlled substances at the scene of the accident, Damron said.

Buchanan was charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance, second-degree possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and carrying a concealed deadly weapon.

Damron said Buchanan was injured in the wreck, but refused treatment.

Buchanan was lodged in the Letcher County Jail.
