Jenkins police receive truck

The Jenkins Police Department has received a four-wheel drive truck courtesy of a convicted drug dealer.

Former Jenkins Police Officer Brian Damron arrested a man from Pike County who was transporting drugs into Letcher County on November 24, 2006. The police department was able to seize the vehicle the man was operating because drugs were found in the vehicle and the vehicle was used to transport drugs.

Police Chief Jim Stephens said his department worked with the U.S. Marshal Service to obtain the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up.

Stephens said he hopes the forfeiture reminds people that property can be seized when people are convicted of selling illegal drugs.

“Not only will you do jail time but you can lose your property,” said Stephens. “We are going to put a sign on the back (of the vehicle) that says ‘donated by a local drug dealer.'”
