Jenkins Lady Cavaliers star Whitney Creech is now the second leading scorer in the history of Kentucky high school basketball and may be the first player to reach the 5,000 point mark.
Creech, who scored 44 points Monday night in an 89-62 loss to East Carter, had 4,464 points going into Tuesday night’s action in the third round of play in the Gateway Holiday Classic at Montgomery County High School.
Creech passed McDowell High School’s Geri Grigsby’s 4,384 career points by scoring 60 points in the opening game of the Gateway Classic on Sunday. She now trails only Highlands High School graduate Jaime Waltz, who had 4,948 points during her career.
The Lady Cavaliers are coached by Ashley Addington. Other team members include Melissa Bartley, Katie DePriest, McKenzie Gibson, Emilee Rose, Alexis Stambaugh, and Shae Rose. Seventh graders Abigail Bentley and Ariana Bentley are also on the roster.
The Lady Cavs will play at June Buchanan on Saturday before hosting Letcher County Central on Friday, January 8
