Jeremiah Missionary Baptist Church marks 35th anniversary

Just time for a brief column this week. I’ll try to have more next time.

The annual memorial meeting at the Caudill Cemetery at Red Star will be held on August 28 at 5 p.m. All are welcome to attend and dinner will be served afterward. Please bring a covered dish.

On August 22, there will be a meeting to discuss plans for the 30-year reunion of Letcher High School graduates. That will be on Sunday at 6 p.m. Call Danna Smith at 633-8585 for more information.

The Letcher Area Homemakers met last Tuesday at the Jeremiah Missionary Baptist Church. They had planned to tack a few quilts, but put it off until next month. A lot of us couldn’t make it to the meeting due to prior appointments. It’s a busy time seems like.

Benji, Danna and Travis Smith recently took a vacation to Michigan. They went to Mackinaw Island and also enjoyed the big Cabello Sporting Goods Store at Dundee. They enjoyed the trip and had lots of fun. They came back to Carlisle for Danna’s family reunion.

We attended the Sunday services at Jeremiah Missionary Baptist Church. It was its 35th anniversary and a memorial to deceased members. They had special happenings on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and had a large attendance for the event. We enjoyed seeing friends and neighbors and having dinner afterward.

Rodney and Geraldine Ison’s son Mike came in from Lexington to attend and also to visit family.

We got to see Corey and Tanya Ison’s little girl and she was “cute as a button”.

Don and Coreen Pridemore and I spent last Thursday night at Andy and Jessie Banks Scott’s home in Lexington. Dad had appointments Thursday and Friday at the VA Hospital so we stayed overnight.

Mom (Coreen) has enjoyed having Tony and Mary Carolyn Blair and Tony’s sisters, Carol and Lorene, visiting at Sycamore and looking through old Sycamore School photos.
