Jesse Bates injured in work accident

There was a mistake in my column last week. It is Jo Caudill who was in Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital, not Joe. Sorry.

Joanne Walters of Blackey, called about a yard sale being held in Blackey by her and other members of the community on Saturday, May 3, beginning at 8 a.m.

My niece, Jessica Dixon of Carcassonne, had her hernia surgery last Wednesday and we thought she would get to come home, but they kept her overnight. The worst part for her was they wouldn’t let her eat and when they did it was only liquids for awhile. She is doing better now.

Sam and Wanda Howie came in recently and visited for a weekend with Wanda’s mother, Mae Fugate of Carcassonne, and her sisters and brothers. Sam and Wanda live in Tennessee.

Happy birthday to my brother-in-law, Gary “Duke” Fugate. It is on May 9. I would put his age but he probably wouldn’t talk to me for awhile.

Happy birthday to Allison Blair of Blair Branch. It’s also on May 9. She is the daughter of Gerald and Kathy Blair.

Jesse Bates of Blackey, was hurt at work a few weeks ago. A machine shot coal into his face and it was embedded in his skin. They said he was lucky it didn’t get into his eyes.

Leslie Gibson and her daughter, Lauren Leeann, went to Pikeville on Friday night and watched “High School Musical on Ice.” She said they were tired but Lauren had a good time.

Happy birthday to Jai Miller of Blackey. It is on April 30. The family had a dinner for him down at his brother, Randall’s, on Sunday. Jai and his wife, Michelle, have a beautiful baby girl, Kylie.

Manford Ray “Bud” Arnold died at home on Friday morning, April 25. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Bud was originally from Elk Creek and had lived for the past several years on Sandlick. He has a daughter, Joni Arnold Dixon, Elk Creek, and a son, Tim, Tell City, Ind. His son, Buddy, preceded him in death. Bud also has one granddaughter, Effie Quillen, Sandlick, and two grandsons, Marty and Zachary, Indianapolis, Ind. He also has two greatgrandchildren, Derrick and Siera Elizabeth Jane. Bud was known near and far for his sense of humor. He will be sorely missed.
