Funeral services for JoAnn Sparkman, 84, will be held at 11 a.m., December 15, at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison, Ind. Interment will follow in the Dupont Cemetery.
Born in Letcher County, Mrs. Sparkman grew up in Chopping Branch Hollow and attended school there. She was reared in the Old Regular Baptist Church and later attended Dupont United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Sparkman worked early in life as a nanny and at Craft’s Five and Dime Store in Neon prior to going to Indiana in 1953. She worked for several years at Arvin’s in North Vernon, Ind., Reliance Electric in Madison, Ind., and the Cardinal Grill in North Vernon, Ind. She loved to cook, fish, sew, garden, crochet and make arts and crafts.
She died December 9 at her home in Dupont, Ind.
Surviving are a daughter, Cheryl Diane Chuckry and husband Steve of Madison, Ind.; two sons, Phillip Glenn Sparkman and wife Sandra of Commiskey, Ind., and David Wayne Sparkman and wife Dawn of Madison, Ind.; grandchildren, Cara Fox (Doug), Kelly Davis, Jennifer Rae Colen (Kris), Matthew Sparkman (Shelby Terry), Erika Jo Buxton (Cody), Jennifer Miles (Chaffee), Jesse Chuckry (Amber), Brielle Chuckry, and Sierra Chuckry; greatgrandchildren, Mitchell Davis, Lillian Hope Fox, Addy Colen, Eli Colen, Jackson Buxton, Grady Miles, Harper Miles, Kindon Davis, Hunter Pearson, Sebastion Chuckry, and Irie Davis; three brothers, Keith Banks, Irvin Banks and wife Betty, and Bob Banks and wife Peggy all of McRoberts; four sisters, Ruby Maggard and husband Clyde, Sue Hall and husband James, Kay Cook and husband, Jesse, and Teresa Wyatt, all of McRoberts; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Mrs. Sparkman was preceded in death by her parents Jesse Irvin Banks and Edith Nunnley Banks; her husband of 52 years, Jack Sparkman; a grandson, Jonathan George; two brothers, Ray Lee and Steven Michael Banks; and two sisters, Frances Mullins and Reba Nell Banks.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Dupont Volunteer Fire Department or the Dupont Cemetery Association.
