Joe A. Vanhoose, 88, died November 9 at Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital.
Born in Johnson County to the late Orear and Mollie Osbourne Vanhoose, he was the widower of Evelyn Mae Rash Vanhoose. Two sisters and a brother also preceded him in death.
A U.S. Army veteran, he enjoyed gardening, watching Westerns and spending time with family and friends.
Surviving are a daughter, Valerie Vanhoose Spangler of Seco; two brothers, Kermit Vanhoose of Paintsville, and Scotty Vanhoose of Indianapolis, Ind.; four sisters, Edith Brown of River, Mazie Quillen of Cincinnati, Oh., Linda Wicker of Prestonsburg, and Heddy Campbell of Elizabethtown; and a granddaughter, Dashley Nicole Mullins and husband Robbie of Jenkins.
Funeral services were held November 11 in Whitesburg. Burial was in Green Acres Cemetery at Ermine.
